In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, there’s been lots of talk about public alerting systems, but the District of Columbia already has a working system that allows citizens to receive alerts on mobile devices. The system requires you to register, and establish a username and password, and also lets you to narrow down the types of alerts you receive through a dizzying list of neighborhoods and schools.
