Many news stories on public safety communications are now about consolidation, or at least the debate brought on by the issue. Representative of the nation’s debates is the one between the town of Lockport (NY) and Niagra County, which pits the local police against the county sheriff, with the county’s fire departments in between. During a recent Lockport Board of Fire Commissioners meeting, there were opinions expressed on both sides, leading one fire commissioner to exclaim, “If somebody is in favor of this, I want to know why.
