No, it’s not possible to text message the Butler County (Kan.) 911 center, according to a story on the KBSD-TV Web site. The issue came up when a local high school student phoned the newsroom to suggest text messages might be a way for students to “dial” for help during emergencies, without having to actually talk on the phone during an emergency, and possible be overheard by a suspect. Chris Davis, director of the county’s 911 center, told the TV reporter that for now, 911 is a voice-only system. Read more here.
