CAD Error Leads to Death

A new $2.5 million CAD system at the Plantation (Fla.) police department and its premise file entries apparently led to a glitch when an unnamed calltaker entered the partial name of a city park, leading firefighters to respond instead to a city auditorium five miles away. The problem led to a 10-minute response time, when units normally would take four minutes to arrive. The victim died of a heart-related problem. Officials said the calltaker typed “Deicke” into the CAD location field of the entry screen, and the software completed the field as “Deicke Park” and not “Deicke Auditorium.” Read more here.
