It’s A ‘People’ Job

Stafford County (Virg.) comm center manager Carol Adams says that dispatching is, “a people job,” while explaining how the evening shift helped a mother and her 16 year-old son stranded on Interstate 95 at 10 p.m. A tow truck driver called to say the pair didn’t have money for a tow when their car broke down, or money for a motel. The family was enroute from North Carolina to Philadelphia, and didn’t know anyone in the area. Adams said the dispatchers called a local motel and got them to take $20 off the price of a room, and then took up a collection among themselves of $200 for the tow and motel. A sheriff’s sergeant took the money to the mother and son, and then drove them back to the motel. After a quick repair the next morning, the two were on their way.
