911 Tapes, Print or Not?

In the Public Editor column of The News & Observer (Raleigh, NC), Ted Vaden writes about the editor’s choice to use 911 logging tapes quotes, and posting them on the newspaper’s Web site. There’s a great deal of discussion and debate among writers and editors when the tapes contain gruesome details of crimes, or the words of personal tragedies. In some cases, the newspaper has not posted the audio or printed the words of some 911 calls. Read more about their dilemma here.
