Trial OK For Former Dispatcher

A court-appointed panel of doctors has ruled that former Monterey County (Calif.) dispatcher Frank Savinon is competent to stand trial for murdering his girlfriend in January. Savinon’s attorney had requested the psychological review and the court agreed to have it performed. Now Savinon a preliminary hearing will be schuled to determine if there’s sufficient evidence to hold a full trial. Savinon is charged with kidnapping, torture, attempted murder, making a death threat, assault with a deadly weapon and preventing or dissuading a victim using threat or force. He was a Salinas Rural Fire Department firefighter at the time of the incident, and was a part-time dispatcher for the county.
