The Washington (DC)-based E-911 Institute has named the 911 CARES program the recipient of its 2007 Community Service award. The 911 CARES effort was formed by trainer and consultant Kevin Willett, who also operates Public Safety Training Consultants (PSTC) in California. During his trips around the country Willett encountered many personal stories of tragedy and heartache among dispatchers, and vowed to rally the dispatching community to help. Gregory Rohde, executive director of the Institute, said, “911 CARES has helped many dispatchers and call takers around the country to cope with the very stressful environment in which they work.” Willett’s program has raised money and arranged for resources to help dispatchers in scores of incidents.
