The city of Boston (Mass.) has petitioned the FCC to obtain 72 unassigned paging control frequencies in the 470-512 MHz band for a new public safety radio system, saying there is a lack of regularly-assigned public safety frequencies in the metro area. The new system is being proposed by the Metro-Boston Homeland Security Region, which would integrate the existing VHF, UHF and 800 MHz bands of nine jurisdictions and increase interoperability among agencies.
