Tooele (Utah) police chief Ron Kirby proposed to the city council spending $133,000 to purchase new software for the department’s mobile data system. The system was developed by a company who oddly named it “FATPOT,” which they say means “For All The People Of The World”–although they didn’t explain the missing letter. Kirby said 130 other law enforcement agencies in the state already use the software, which not only handles wireless communications, but also handles in-field reporting, ticket writing and other tasks. The council approved the proposal–but doesn’t have the money, which Kirby hopes to obtain from a homeland security grant. Tooele’s population is 22,500 west of Salt Lake City.
