U.S. Senator John Sununu (R-NH) has introduced legislation that would require the FCC to work with other federal agencies to examine radio freqencies that are cross-licensed by Canada and the United States, which reportedly take 1 to 3 years to obtain for use by public safety agencies. The legislation was included in the Interoperable Emergency Communications Act (S. 385) which was approved by a Senate committee last week. In a press release Sununu said, “In northern New Hampshire, law enforcement agencies have been kept from using available radio channels and frequencies– representing a situation in which government bureaucracy may be putting personnel and American citizens in harm’s way.” Read the senator’s press release here.
