DHS: Fudging Grant Numbers?

Members of Congress are reviewing President Bush’s 2008 budget proposal, and are critical of the way that $1 billion in DHS grant cuts is being covered up by money appropriated for radio interoperability grants. The budget seems to claim that DHS has authority over the interoperability grant money, when in fact legislators say it’s been assigned to the Department of Commerce to allocate to local agencies. But DHS is using the interoperability funds to justify a $1 billion reduction in first-responder grants in their agency. Read more here.
