Radio Pirates in Court

Two Houston (Tex.) men appeared in court Wednesday on charges the used a modified HAM radio to make interfering transmissions on the police department’s radio channels. Michael McCollum and Larry Lewis are accused of interrupting radio traffic, and broadcasting racial remarks and profanity during the past year. Police said the FCC cooperated in tracking down the two men, with Lewis allegedly found in a stolen car when he was arrested. They face local charges and also federal charges related to the radio broadcasts.
