Several agencies in San Diego (Calif.) county have linked up their CAD systems to allow immediate and direct communication of incidents and unit status for fire incidents. The hook-up was prompted by a series of wildland fires in 2003 that covered many jurisdictions an highlighted communications issues. A solution was proposed last year when a housing developer wanted to build in a rural area with few fire stations–the developer would pay the cost of linking up the CAD systems, allowing agencies to easily coordinate responses for the housing project area.
