A trio of communications experts has authored a research paper for the University of Colorado titled, “Toward a Next Generation Architecture for Public Safety Communications.” The paper takes the lessons of Hurricane Katrina, examines the reliance on land mobile radio systems, and then looks at more reliable architectures for providing reliable communications during emergencies. Their approach takes all types of wireless communications, including Wi-Fi, satellite, cellular and private radios, and the featuers of multi-mode radios to provide reliable wireless links.
