Transit Radio Useless

A story in the New York Times explains that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are not using a new $140 million radio system because it suffers from interference and has dead spots. It could cost up to $20 million to upgrade the system and solve the reception problems, officials told the newspaper. Also, the new system uses the existing in-tunnel antenna cables, but about 20% of the cable is so old that it doesn’t carry a signal. Replacing the cable will cost $36 million. Read more here.
