Some fire chiefs Quay County (NM) have filed complaints about the county’s PSAP at the Tucumcari Police Department, saying dispatchers are making mistakes, partly because of high turn-over. Police chief Larry Ham didn’t deny mistakes to a reporter, but pointed out that a dispatcher’s base salary is $7.25 per hour. Several dispatchers have left for the state police, which pay $2 to $3 more per hour. The center is fully staffed with 7 persons, he said, but just one has 3 years experience, while four have just 2-3 months, and two have just 3 weeks experience. Read more about their problems here.
