New Orleans (La.) region public safety agencies are now using a new 700 MHz P25 radio system built with federal grant money. New Orleans police and fire, Jefferson Parish Sheriffs, Kenner Police, St. Bernard Sheriffs and Plaquemines Parish Sheriffs are among the agencies participating in the new system, which operates as a subsystem of the state-wide radio system. Previously New Orleans operated an M/A-COMM built 800 MHz trunked system. Interestingly, officials told reporters said they didn’t have a full tally on the cost of the new radio system, but probably cost about $30 million.
