Wrong Button for Dispatch

An unnamed Kent County (Mich.) dispatcher pressed the wrong button, failing to send firefighters to a medical emergency where the victim later died. Sheriff’s officials said the dispatcher pressed the correct on-screen button to speed-dial AMR by phone, and requested an ambulance. He hung up, and then pressed the an on-screen speed-dial button to contact Grand Rapids fire dispatch. However, he pressed the same button and re-dialed AMR. He reached a different AMR dispatcher, and never realized it wasn’t the Grand Rapids fire comm center. The mistake wasn’t discovered until a sheriff’s deputy arrived at the victim’s house and radioed a dispatcher for an ETA on the fire department. Read more here.
