Retiring Decatur (Ala.) police chief Joel Gilliam gave a frank assessment of public safety interoperability during a talk he gave to the local Rotary Club, saying there is reluctance to create a single comm center in the county, and that the reasons are political, not technological. “It’s dangerous and wasteful not to use it, and it’s less expensive to be on that system,” he told the audience of 100.
