Former Carbon County (Penn.) 911 dispatcher Joseph Homanko Jr. was diverted to a probation program and required to perform 20 hours of community service in connection with criminal charges that he dispatched firefighters to a phony incident last April. Under the arrangement, his criminal record will not reflect a conviction. Homanko was charged with sending Weatherly firefighters and Nesquehoning police to a brush fire, when in fact no fire had been reported to him. The incident was discovered by a supervisor performing quality assurance checks, Homanko was suspended and later resigned. While awaiting trial he was jailed for two days for violating terms of his bail when he had contact with EMTs.
