Debate Over EOC

Clatsop County (Ore.) sheriff Tom Bergin has admitted making some mistakes in handling incidents from last week’s turbulent weather that include wind speeds up to 100 mph in some areas. “We’ve learned several valuable lessons,” he told a reporter. Primarily, county officials questioned why Bergin didn’t activate the county’s EOC to help coordinate responses and centralize information about all the downed trees and power lines, and other incidents that were being reported. “To me this event did not meet the criteria of a major disaster,” he told commissioners at a recent meeting.
