Newly-elected District of Columbia mayor Adrian Fenty has announced that he will fire current 911 center manager E. Michael Latessa, saying it’s time to make sure, “we inspire the work force to do the best they can in what can sometimes be very difficult work environments.” Fenty has appointed Janice Quintana as the new head of the Office of Unified Communications, which has been the subject of criticism by citizens and politicians since it consolidates police, fire and EMS communications in one building in 2005. Quintana previously managed the District’s 311 call center.
