Two ambulances are always dispatched to EMS incidents in York County (SC)…because that’s the way it’s always been done. Units from Piedmont Medical Center and one from the local rescue squad respond, and whoever arrives first handles the incident, according to an article in the Herald newspaper. Cotton Howell, York County’s director of emergency operation, says the procedure is “counterproductive,” and wants to consider other ways of handling incidents.
