There has been another incident involving missing persons that have involved cellular phones, this time in Horry County (NC), where a couple’s car left the roadway as they drove to New York City, and drove into a swamp. Both drowned, but their car wasn’t found for several days, despite an initial search by emergency units. The family noticed the couple was missing, and then last Thursday a caller reported seeing a car off the road in the swamp. Units responded, but after about a 25-minute search, went back in service without finding the vehicle. The couple was discovered on Monday afternoon, over three days after the 911 call. There has been a rash of other missing person incidents: a San Francisco couple who went missing in Oregon were located with the help of their cellular phone’s signal, while three men trapped in a storm on Mt. Hood used their cellular phone to call for help. Read more about this latest incident here. Listen to the 911 call here.
