911, Not *MSP

The Massachusetts State Police are advising motorists to dial 911 if they have an emergency, not the previously-used special numbers of *SP or *MSP. “When you dial 9-1-1 on your wireless phone, vital information is presented to State Police dispatch personnel, including your approximate location,” the MSP said in a press release. The *SP and *MSP numbers debuted back in 1986 to allow motorists to quickly obtain help while on the state’s highways. Read more here.
