There was a confused response Louisiana to reports that a man jumped into the Vermillion River next to the city of Lafayette, and he was found several days later dead. A caller to the Lafayette Parish 911 District said the man jumped in, swam the river and emerged on the other side–and then may have jumped back in. The No fire or EMS units responded, and a “suspicious person” incident was generated, but not immediately dispatched by Lafayette police. Then a second call was made directly to LPD, and the officer who arrived couldn’t locate the man. Even a state trooper showed up–his wife was the first 911 caller, and then she called him.
