Vonage 911 Call Mis-Route

A resident dialed 911 in the town of Menasha in Winnebago County (Wisc.), but it was answered at the adjacent Door County 911 center. Winnebago County dispatcher Kathy Biggar told WBAY-TV the caller had Vonage phone service. “We have no clue, why or how. Another customer, would it pick Door County for them to? We don’t know that. We can’t get any answers,” Biggar said. But the TV reporter received some explanation from Vonage spokesperson Brooke Schulz, who pointed to phone provider SBC. She said, “It turns out that SBC made a translation error last week in assigning the numbers we use to route our calls to Winnebago. to route the calls to Door.” She said calls were being routed to Vonage’s national call center until SBC fixes the routing issue.
