La Cross County (Wisc.) is studying how to reduce or eliminate 10-Codes among the counties agencies and adopt plain English. The project was prompted by a DHS requirement that was later modified into a recommendation. West Salem police chief Dennis Abbott said his department had 100 different 10-Codes at one time, but now uses only 10 to 12 essential codes. Read more about the plain English plan here.
