Dispatchers Profiled

Two newspaper articles focused on the complex job of public safety dispatching. The Herald Journal of Logan (Utah) story explained, “Being a public safety dispatcher is a stressful job with few rewards, that’s why a shortage of employees at the Logan Dispatch Center has its director concerned.” The Capitol newspaper of Annapolis (Md.) story says that dispatchers are, “trained to hear things that nobody should have to listen to.” And a third article in the Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser headlined, “911 job pressure causes operator shortage.” The Montgomery County Fire-Rescue has 13 open positions out of 55 total, or a 27% vacancy rate. Read the story here.
