A former Calhoun (Geo.) man says a sheriff’s deputy wrote him a ticket and ran into the back of his car in retaliation for his criticism of the county’s public safety comm center. Claude Akley wrote a letter to a local newspaper claiming that deputies were slow to respond to a a 2004 shooting. Logging tapes after the incident revealed that dispatcher Jenny Elmore made remarks to the deputy, including, “You should have hit him a little harder.” Elmore was suspended without pay for three days over the incident, given remedial training and put on six months probation, but she was not fired. The deputy was not disciplined. The county ended up paying for Akley’s vehicle damage and some medical bills.
