An Associated Press story says that FEMA will have a revised and upgraded Emergency Aleting System (EAS) on-line by the end of the year, capable of sending messages to anything that can receive text: pagers, PDAs, cellular phones, computers via e-mail, SMS, satellite phones…OK, you get the idea. The system has been tested in the Washington (DC) region since Oct. 2004, and will roll out slowly. Read more here.
