Phase II Completed

The city of Redlands (S. Calif.) has completed its implementation of Phase II wireless E911 for all five of the region’s carriers, allowing it to handle calls directly from cellular callers, instead of the calls being routed to the California Highway Patrol and then transferred. The comm center started receiving Verizon customer 911 calls directly back in Sept. 2005, and that quadrupled the number of 911 calls that it previously handled. On the other hand, it will reduce the CHP’s workload: from 1994 to 2004, the CHP comm center call load increased from 16 million calls to 159 calls. Read the story here.
