At the recent National Interoperability Summit in Austin (Tex.), Harlan McEwen gave a presentation on “Key Interoperability Issues in the United States,” including his opinion on the recent Cyren Call proposal for more public safety spectrum. McEwen is a former police chief who now chairs the IACP’s Communications & Technology Committee. He explained the difference between a “disaster” and a “catastrophe,” and called the Cyren Call proposal “bold and exciting,” while noting some of obstacles to implementing it.
