Houston (Tex.) police chief Harold Hurtt has told reporters that 20 of the comm center’s 92 position are open, and he’s considering several options to help get them filled. He said that several candidates are in trainng now, and three more will start shortly. He said that paying a competitive salary and offering free child care may help improve staffing. “Since a majority of them are female traditionally, and we think this would be a perk that would increase our ability to hire and also retain the individuals,” Hurtt said.
