A company staffed with for FCC officials has petitioned their former employer for spectrum in the 2155-2175 MHz band to provide, “free, high speed broadband access to nearly every consumer, business and non-profit and public safety entity in the United States without relying on the Universal Service Fund or other taxpayer dollars.” The 384 kbps-down, 128 kbps-up service is free, but only if consumer purchase a “relatively inexpensive reception device.” Download (pdf, 3.2 Mb) the company’s petition here.
