LaPorte County (Ind.) sheriff Jim Arnold told a reporter his deputies would have responded to a woman’s 911 call saying her husband had threatened her, even though county E911 director Brent Soller says a memo from the sheriff specifically set out a policy not to respond unless there was an “immediate threat.” The woman was later murdered by the husband when dispatchers say they followed the sheriff’s established procedure and did not send deputies in response to the 911 call.
