VoIP/E911 Legislation Change

The U.S. Congress is considering legislation (HR 5252, pdf) that would allow VoIP providers to market their services to subscribers, even if the company doesn’t have full E911 service as now required by FCC regulations. However, the go-ahead would come with limitations: the company must have a call center to handle 911 calls, and meet a 180-day deadline to implement the service.
