An unnamed Cleburne (Tex.) police dispatcher has resigned in the wake of the death of an 84 year-old woman in a fire. The dispatcher fielded a call on a non-emergency telephone line about smoke in the general area, but didn’t send firefighters to investigate. About 20 minutes later another call pinpointed the source of the smoke, the elderly woman’s duplex. Police chief Terry Powell said the dispatcher was a 7-year veteran and is “devastated” over the incident. Read the story here.
