Interop Group: No Meetings

A long story on The Advocate Web site notes that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco appointed a Statewide Interoperable Communication System Executive Committee back in January, but it is, “stacked with state officials and light on local first-responders,” and has yet to hold a meeting. The Louisiana Sheriffs Association and other local law-enforcement entities are upset that they have no representation on the committee, and they’ve threatened not to cooperate with the group. The article also points out, “Even before the hurricane did its damage, however, emergency communications in Louisiana were languishing,” noting that the Louisiana State Police continue to use “a decades-old statewide 800 MHz analog wireless communication system.”
